About Days Between Dates
Days Between Dates
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
No. Its calculation or transformation happens on your device.
Using Days Between Dates with the right inputs
Days Between Dates Start by matching your task to the quantities and options shown below. The definitions of the inputs matter as much as the final number or transformed output; retain the original values so that you can repeat or check the result.
Inputs and options explained
- Start date: select a calendar date. Check the ordering of start and end values and any option controlling whether an endpoint is counted.
- End date: select a calendar date. Check the ordering of start and end values and any option controlling whether an endpoint is counted.
- Include the end date: enable this option only when you want that condition to apply; compare it with the option disabled if you are checking its effect.
Method and interpretation
The tool compares calendar dates using UTC midnight values. By default it counts from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Selecting Include the end date adds one day. Weekdays are Monday through Friday.
Worked example
From 1 January 2025 to 3 January 2025, the default result is 2 calendar days. Including the end date produces 3. Using the same date for both endpoints gives zero by default or one when the end date is included.
Assumptions and limitations
Public holidays are not deducted from the weekday count. The end date must not precede the start. This is a date-range calculation, not an elapsed-hours timer or a jurisdiction-specific deadline calculation.
Are weekdays the same as business days?
Not always. This tool excludes Saturday and Sunday but does not know public holidays, local working weeks or a company's closure calendar.
Before you use the output
- Choose the intended action: Calculate date range. Re-run the operation after changing an input or mode so that you are checking the updated result.
- Read the result label and any accompanying explanation. Keep the input values or source file with the output so that a later comparison uses the same assumptions.
- If a result looks unexpected, check units, separators and selected options first. Try a smaller example you can verify rather than repeatedly changing several settings at once.
Questions or a result that needs checking?
If you find a discrepancy, report a problem with Days Between Dates. Include a non-sensitive example, the selected options, the result you expected and the result shown. This makes the issue easier to reproduce. See About & privacy for how the site handles tool inputs.
