About CSV to JSON Converter

Use this CSV to JSON Converter for a quick result with clear validation and copyable output. It is designed to be simple on phones and desktops alike.

Does this tool send my data anywhere?

No. Its calculation or transformation happens on your device.

Using CSV to JSON Converter with the right inputs

Convert simple CSV data into JSON locally. Start by matching your task to the quantities and options shown below. The definitions of the inputs matter as much as the final number or transformed output; retain the original values so that you can repeat or check the result.

Inputs and options explained

  • CSV input: paste the source text without omitting meaningful spaces, quotation marks or line breaks. Begin with a small representative sample so that you can check the transformation before processing a longer input.
  • Or upload a CSV file (up to 5 MB): choose a local source file and keep the original. The file selector accepts .csv, text/csv, text/plain. Check that the file contents match the intended format; renaming an extension does not convert a file.
  • Delimiter: choose Detect automatically, Comma, Semicolon, Tab, Pipe.
  • First row contains column names: enable this option only when you want that condition to apply; compare it with the option disabled if you are checking its effect.

Method and interpretation

The converter reads rows using the selected delimiter. With column names enabled, the first row supplies object keys; otherwise the result contains arrays of cell values. Cell values are preserved as strings rather than guessed as numbers or dates.

Worked example

With a header row, the CSV lines name, score and Ada,98 become an object with name set to Ada and score set to the string 98. Keeping the score as a string prevents automatic type conversion from changing the original cell text.

Assumptions and limitations

Rows must have consistent column counts, and header names must be non-empty and unique. Choose a delimiter explicitly when automatic detection is ambiguous. Quoted commas and line breaks must be correctly escaped. The file input is limited to 5 MB; large documents can also use substantial browser memory.

Why are numbers returned as strings?

The converter preserves cell text, including leading zeroes and identifiers. Convert chosen fields to numeric types later only when your application's schema requires it.

Before you use the output

  • Choose the intended action: Convert CSV to JSON. Re-run the operation after changing an input or mode so that you are checking the updated result.
  • Read the result label and any accompanying explanation. Keep the input values or source file with the output so that a later comparison uses the same assumptions.
  • If a result looks unexpected, check units, separators and selected options first. Try a smaller example you can verify rather than repeatedly changing several settings at once.

Questions or a result that needs checking?

If you find a discrepancy, report a problem with CSV to JSON Converter. Include a non-sensitive example, the selected options, the result you expected and the result shown. This makes the issue easier to reproduce. See About & privacy for how the site handles tool inputs.
